Friends, there is only one nation that fits such descriptions. There is only one nation on earth that arose out of a largely unpopulated territory and whose government, in 1798, was young and independent. There is only one nation on earth that, in 1798, had a Declaration of Independence and Constitution that promote both civil government and religious liberty. That nation was and still is the United States of America. This is the second beast of Revelation chapter thirteen. But again, the question can be asked: How much longer will we enjoy the blessings of true Protestantism and civil liberty? Furthermore, what does all this have to do with the next president of the United States of America?

At this point let me introduce to you the next president of the United States, namely, Senator Bernard “Bernie” Sanders. But why do I believe he will be the next president? Well, it is because of what I read in the prophetic pages of the Bible. Without taking the time to explain every detail of Revelation, we understand that in the final movements of earth’s history, there is going to be a union between the Vatican, papal power and the United States of America. Not only that, but prophecy reveals that the US will be the main catalyst by which the entire world will once again yield homage to the papacy. And more than this, prophecy shows that the US will also be the main powerhouse that controls a global economy in which there are people of every class (see Revelation 13:16, 17). As I research the historical and current positions of Senator Bernie, and as I consider the movements taking place in America, I realize a serious shift in thinking taking place both socially and economically. The implications of this shift are ominous, to say the least!

Before the final movements propel with rapidity, we should already see the wheels slowly turning in the direction of fulfilling prophecy. In other words, if the US will play a significant role with the Vatican at the end of history, we should see more and more the unity of these two nations. This, my friends, is definitely evident in the case of Senator Sanders. On January 9, 2015, the web-based news outlet Time published an article entitled, “The Possible Presidential Candidate Who Agrees the Most with Pope Francis.” In the article, Elizabeth Dias states: “He’s also the likely 2016 presidential candidate whose political philosophy lines up most closely with the economic and social theories of Pope Francis. … Sanders quotes the Pope because he actually believes his message.” (4). I want you to notice the two theories about which there is alignment; economic and social. Both camps are huge proponents of social and economic equality. In fact, Elizabeth, in the same article, says the following about Sanders: “Sanders’ social-media accounts are filled with quotes from the Holy Father about the need to reform socioeconomic systems.” But what is the content of their theories, and what are these leaders seeking to produce in society? The answer is simple, namely, a worldwide socialist utopia!

Socialism! In America? Could this become? Friends it already is! This is the wave of this generation. Before our very eyes are movements rooted in America that are undermining what once was a capitalist, protestant nation. In 1982, the year that marks the beginning of the Millennial generation, a merging of the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee (DSOC) and the New American Movement (NAM) took place. Out of this merge was the founding of the present-day organization called Democratic Socialist of America (DSA). According to their own statement, “The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States, and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International.” (5). But what exactly is Democratic Socialism? Let’s allow them to answer: “Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives.” (6). Notice their emphasis on social and economic equality. In fact, according to their own admittance, they are socialist for the following reasons: “We are socialists because we reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships.” (7).

As referenced to above, the DSA is an affiliate and member of the Socialist International (SI) organization. Interestingly, this organization’s origins go back to the early international organizations of the labor movement of the 19th century. It was, however, re-established in 1951 at the Frankfurt Congress and has existed in its present form since then. In its Declaration of the Socialist International, the following is stated as their aims and tasks: “Socialism aims to liberate the peoples from dependence on a minority which owns or controls the means of production. It aims to put economic power in the hands of the people as a whole, and to create a community in which free men work together as equals. … In many countries uncontrolled capitalism is giving place to an economy in which state intervention and collective ownership limit the scope of private capitalists. More people are coming to recognise the need for planning. Social security, free trade unionism and industrial democracy are winning ground. This development is largely a result of long years of struggle by Socialists and trade unionists. Wherever Socialism is strong, important steps have been taken towards the creation of a new social order.” (8). Friends, this is just a glimpse of the philosophy now gaining ground worldwide. And what’s amazing to note is that such ideas are being embraced largely by the youth of America, the Millennials!
